Static vs Dynamic QR Codes

Learn the differences between Static and Dynamic QR Codes, why Static QR Codes are free, and why Dynamic QR Codes require managed services.
CheapQRcode offers two service models for most QR Code types:

Static QR Code (Free):
Once printed, cannot be changed without creating a new QR Code.

Dynamic QR Code:
The printed QR Code remains the same while the destination (content) can be updated later.
Regardless of the service model, every QR Code can be saved in your personal QR Collection, allowing you to organize, redesign, download, and print all your QR Codes from one secure place.

The following sections describe each QR Code type offered by CheapQRCode and explain the differences between the Free and Paid service models.

Important: Throughout our pricing plans, Paid QR Codes correspond to Dynamic QR Codes, while Free QR Codes correspond to Static QR Codes. These terms are used interchangeably throughout our website.

Website QR Code (can be used for any internet link)

Free Option (Static QR Code):

  • Internet required.
  • Not editable by the owner (Static).
  • No scan tracking available.
  • The QR code is in your collection, so it can be printed again with different formats, but the content encoded in the QR Code remains unchanged forever.

Paid Option (Dynamic QR Code):

  • Internet required.
  • Editable by the owner (Dynamic).
  • Scan tracking available, with reports.
  • The QR Code is saved in your QR Collection, where it can be redesigned, downloaded, and printed again at any time. The content can also be updated whenever needed.

File QR Code

Free Option (Static QR Code):

  • Internet required.
  • The file will be stored in Google Drive.
  • The URL of the file can not editable by the owner (Static).
  • No scan tracking available.
  • The QR code is in your collection, so it can be printed again with different formats, but the content encoded in the QR Code remains unchanged forever.

Paid Option (Dynamic QR Code):

  • Internet required.
  • The file will be stored in CheapQRCode or Google Drive.
  • The URL of the file can be editable by the owner (Dynamic).
  • Scan tracking available, with reports.
  • The QR Code is saved in your QR Collection, where it can be redesigned, downloaded, and printed again at any time. The content can also be updated whenever needed.

Wi-Fi QR Code

Free Option (Static QR Code):

  • Designed to work without internet.
  • The content can not be editable by the owner (Static).
  • No scan tracking available.
  • The QR code is in your collection, so it can be printed again with different formats, but the content encoded in the QR Code remains unchanged forever. 

Paid Option (Dynamic QR Code):

  • Not available.

Why is there no Managed version?

A Wi-Fi QR Code stores the network credentials directly inside the QR Code using the standard Wi-Fi format. CheapQRCode intentionally offers Wi-Fi QR Codes as Free only because one of their greatest advantages is that users can connect to a wireless network without already having Internet access.

A managed version would require an Internet connection to retrieve the Wi-Fi configuration, defeating the primary purpose of this type of QR Code. For this reason, Wi-Fi QR Codes always remain offline and independent.

Contact (vCard) QR Code

Free Option (Static QR Code):

  • An internet connection is  required (Android and iOS handle contact cards differently, so this QR code needs a quick check with our server to work correctly on your device.)
  • The content can not be editable by the owner (Static).
  • No scan tracking available.
  • The QR code is in your collection, so it can be printed again with different formats, but the content encoded in the QR Code remains unchanged forever.

Paid Option (Dynamic QR Code):

  • An internet connection is  required .
  • The content can be editable by the owner (Dynamic).
  • Scan tracking available, with reports.
  • The QR Code is saved in your QR Collection, where it can be redesigned, downloaded, and printed again at any time. The content can also be updated whenever needed.

Map Location QR Code

Free Option (Static QR Code):

  • Internet is required to open applications like Google Maps.
  • The location can not be editable by the owner (Static).
  • No scan tracking available.
  • The QR Code is saved in your QR Collection, where it can be redesigned, downloaded, and printed again at any time.

Paid Option (Dynamic QR Code):

  • Internet is required to open applications like Google Maps, editing and scan tracking.
  • The location can be editable by the owner (Dynamic).
  • Scan tracking available, with reports.
  • The QR Code is saved in your QR Collection, where it can be redesigned, downloaded, and printed again at any time.

Calendar QR Code

Free Option (Static QR Code):

  • The Internet connection is requiered since calendar apps handle events differently across devices.
  • The event information can not be updated, once the QR Code has been created (Static).
  •  No scan tracking available.
  • The QR Code is saved in your QR Collection, where it can be redesigned, downloaded, and printed again at any time.

Paid Option (Dynamic QR Code):

  • An internet connection is  required.
  • Update the event information at any time without printing a new QR Code (Dynamic).
  • Scan tracking available, with reports.
  • The QR Code is saved in your QR Collection, where it can be redesigned, downloaded, and printed again at any time.

SMS Message

Free Option (Static QR Code):

  • An internet connection is  required.
  • The content can not be editable by the owner (Static).
  • No scan tracking available.
  • The QR Code is saved in your QR Collection, where it can be redesigned, downloaded, and printed again at any time.

Paid Option (Dynamic QR Code):

  • An internet connection is  required.
  • The content can be editable by the owner (Dynamic).
  • Scan tracking available, with reports.
  • The QR Code is saved in your QR Collection, where it can be redesigned, downloaded, and printed again at any time.

WhatsApp Message

Free Option (Static QR Code):

  • An internet connection is required, the user will need an internet connection to send the WhatsApp message.
  • The content can not be editable by the owner (Static).
  • No scan tracking available.
  • The QR Code is saved in your QR Collection, where it can be redesigned, downloaded, and printed again at any time.

Paid Option (Dynamic QR Code):

  • An internet connection is required to edit the QR Code, track scans, and for the user to send the WhatsApp message.
  • The content can be editable by the owner (Dynamic).
  • Scan tracking available, with reports.
  • The QR Code is saved in your QR Collection, where it can be redesigned, downloaded, and printed again at any time.

Email Message

Free Option (Static QR Code):

  • An internet connection required,  the user will need an internet connection to send the email.
  • The content can not be editable by the owner (Static).
  • No scan tracking available.
  • The QR Code is saved in your QR Collection, where it can be redesigned, downloaded, and printed again at any time.

Paid Option (Dynamic QR Code):

  • An internet connection is required to edit the QR Code, track scans, and for the user to send the email.
  • The content can be editable by the owner (Dynamic).
